HEALING CANCER WITH MIND OVER PAIN

HEALING CANCER WITH MIND OVER PAIN
by From the desk of Dr Magne, author of Cancer-Free-For-Life

I received the most interesting email. Gordon wrote:
"Thought you might be interested in that on June 13th I underwent a 1.5 hour hernia operation without ANY anaesthetic - no general, no local. I did it with the power of my mind using only relaxation techniques that I teach my clients. (I am a psychotherapist.)
6 days after the surgery, I have just returned from the gym after running 5K and doing a gentle workout. I have developed a healing program that has really worked for me - I feel wonderful.
This is a dramatic demonstration of the power of thought and intention. There is a known surgeon in Valencia who has carried out complex surgery without anesthesia in more than 900 instances, film cameras were invited into his operating room, and captured on film a woman who was having an operation without anesthetic. All she had to do was keep her mouth full of saliva and keep repeating to herself, "My leg is anesthetized." A dry mouth is one of the mind's first warning signals of danger. When the mouth is kept lubricated, the brain relaxes, assumes all is well and turns off its pain receptors, assured that anesthetics had been given.
Hypnosis is a type of mental intention, made during an altered state. Hypnotists have been able to demonstrate that in many remarkable instances, the brain or body mistakes a thought for the thing itself.
A professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University in California, carried out a fascinating study demonstrating that the brain's visual cortex, the area responsible for processing our images, cannot distinguish between a real image and just an imagined one.
His participants were shown a colored grid painting and asked to imagine the color draining from the picture, leaving only black and white. Through the use of PET scans, which record physical activity in the brain, the tests showed that blood flow and activity were noticeably diminishing in the part of the brain dealing with the perception of color, while the areas that process black, white and grey images were being stimulated.
When the experiment was reversed, and the participants in the study were asked to imagine grey images turning into color, the opposite changes in brain-perception patterns resulted.
The point is, the body and the brain cannot distinguish between an action and a thought. When we tell our brains that we are seeing black and white, our brain actually registers black and white.
Through hypnotic intention, spinal surgery patients about to undergo their operations have been able to reduce blood loss by nearly half, simply by willing their blood supply away from the site of the surgery. Pregnant women have been able to turn their babies from breech positions, burn victims have sped up their healing, and those suffering hemorrhages in the gastrointestinal tract have willed their blood to stop.
The most remarkable example of this concerned a small study of people with a mysterious and illness known as fish-skin disease. For those afflicted with this condition, unsightly fish-like scales cover most of the body. In the study, five patients were hypnotized and told to focus on parts of their body and visualize it becoming normal. Within just a few weeks, 80% of each patient's body had become normal. The skin remained smooth and clear.
Clearly, during a relaxed, meditative state, conscious thought can convince the body to ensure any pain, cure many serious diseases, change virtually any condition.
Research has also shown that the electrical activity of thought and an action are also similar within the brain itself. When an EEG is used to measure the electrical activity of the brain, the brain waves are similar, whether we're thinking about doing something or actually doing it.
We have remarkable powers of healing that have been largely untapped. Obviously if we have the ability to heal ourselves from within without the use of chemotherapy, radiation or surgery, the medical industry is going to be none to happy to see its billion dollar industry disappear to our own healing powers. However, this power has been demonstrated in numerous studies and thousands of cases of spontaneous healing. Dr Magne is an expert in spontaneous healing and relates many stories and case studies in her ground-breaking book Cancer-Free-For-Life.

Should Stage Hypnotism Be Shunned By Hypnotherapists?

Should Stage Hypnotism Be Shunned By Hypnotherapists?
    by Richard MacKenzie

Stage Hypnotism is a subject that is somewhat shunned within the modern day Hypnotherapy profession in the twenty-first century; however that same profession has its roots mainly in the very thing that it shuns. So why is the profession of Hypnotherapy trying to distance itself from the art of Stage Hypnotism - the very thing that helped it to become so very popular? And also, has Stage Hypnotism got any role to play in the modern twenty-first century Hypnotherapy profession? Well within this article I hope to give you something to think about in order to answer these questions for yourselves.
Let's start right at the beginning of what is considered the commencement of modern day Hypnosis in Europe. To do this we have to start in the small Swabian town of Iznang on the banks of Bodensee (Lake Constance) on the German-Swish border in 1734, with the birth of Franz Anton Mesmer. Mesmer himself was a performer, usually performing his healings in front of vast crowds of people. Mesmer was overly flamboyant and very charismatic. In many people's eyes, he truly is the father of modern day Hypnosis and the very first Stage Hypnotist! So to begin with you can see just how long Stage Hypnotism and Hypnotherapy have been working together as one!
Next I want to cover the argument that Stage Hypnotism should be distanced from mainstream Hypnotherapy. For a lot of people, the thought portrayed in Stage Hypnotism of the Hypnotist having complete control over them is a scary prospect. In many cases this can actually stop them from getting the help that they so urgently need, to deal with issues that they may have. After much thinking this is the only negative that I can find.
Now on to the argument that Stage Hypnotism does have a place in modern day Hypnosis and should continue to be used. For at least the last one hundred years, Stage Hypnotism has acted as a vehicle to promote the benefits of Hypnotherapy. There is no doubting this fact. Here in the United Kingdom in the nineties we saw a major boost to Hypnotherapy with the introduction of a Stage Hypnotism show on mainstream television. This is even motivating thousands to both seek Hypnotherapy and train as Hypnotherapists still in 2007.
So there you have it - two sides of the argument and the modern day roots of Hypnosis - what do you think? Will Stage Hypnotism continue to get shunned by the Hypnotherapy profession or will it be used to help thousands more people to find the benefits from Hypnotherapy? You decide!

How to Find Peace During Overwhelming Stress or Depression

How to Find Peace During Overwhelming Stress or Depression
    by Carolyn McFann

Stress is everywhere nowadays, but there are ways to cope to make life more comfortable during tough times. I am not a doctor, but have had suffered with depression and anxiety in my past. Due to much therapy, reading books and learning different ways to relax on my own, my life has drastically improved. When stress happens, I automatically use techniques to relax my mind, that work well for me. Here are some ways to cope that I've used in my recovery, to help give peace and positivity during stressful times.
When feeling depressed and stressed out, don't watch the news. Watch comedy, or something else less "heavy". Watch world or local happenings later when you want, but when feeling on "overload", don't watch anything potentially depressing or stressful. This isn't avoidance, it is self-preservation and helping yourself to regulate your mood. When the mind is on overload, it can grind to a halt and temporarily shut down, resulting in blocks of memory loss or other symptoms (feeling on "auto pilot", for example). The goal is calm and peace so be careful what you subject yourself to when anxious or depressed.
Make your atmosphere relaxing in different ways. Certain colors in your living environment promote calm, read up on which are best and use them. Listen to quiet, or calming music. Dim the lights a little. Whatever helps you to feel relaxed. Some light candles, others read something pleasant. Do something that is entertaining yet not overly stimulating. I watch a movie, or write in my diary. Whatever is comfortable for you.
Observe your pet (or someone else's). Pet them, and watch how they just take it all in, happily. Cats are experts at relaxation, see how calm they are when relaxed. Just stroking a dog or cat is helpful during depressing or stressful times, don't underestimate it. Animals can help take your thoughts off of your stress and onto them, it's their job.
Take care of your body. Avoid any stimulating beverages or foods. I love coffee, and have switched to half decaf to help improve my stress levels. Also, if your blood sugar isn't at the correct levels, that can add to stress, I've been told. If you haven't eaten, eat something with protein in it, like almonds, meat or cheese. The body reacts to what is put in it so treat it with kindness.
Try different relaxation methods and see what is most useful to your needs. I like guided imagery CD's, where a calm story is told by a narrator. It helps to redirect the mind and think of a more serene setting. Let go of control, let yourself experiment with different methods. Learn up on relaxation. Other ways to relax include self-hypnosis (CD's and DVD's by a reputable therapist), meditation, and learning about Buddhist views (which have many different calming techniques for relaxation). I'm not a Buddhist but some of their philosophies are interesting to me. Someone I know listens to the mellow sound of Gregorian Chants to relax his mind. Find what you like and use it as a tool in your arsenal against depression and anxiety.
Listen to positive messages, lectures or sermons. Surround yourself with positivity, especially when you don't feel cheerful. Depression can rob a person of positive feelings, so to fight that, record positive speeches off of tv or record yourself reading your own personal affirmations. Listen to them in your own voice to bring calmness and positivity back. When nobody is there for you, you can be there for yourself, and recording your own messages to yourself can be a powerful boost to morale.
Focus on one thing at a time. Try not to to do too many things all at the same time. Simplify and stop for a moment, take a deep breath. The idea is to unclutter a busy mind, and give it some breathing room to regroup and feel more peaceful.
Exercise. It helps your body produce chemicals that naturally lift the mood. Focus your mind wholeheartedly on what you are doing. Whatever sport makes you happy, from walking to horseback riding. Just get moving and help your body both mentally and physically. Listening to mellow music while exercising may help as well.
It is possible to train your mind to relax in times of stress. I have done it, and you can too. By using whatever techniques work best for you personally, you will be able to weather storms and spring back from them quicker. It just takes practise and the willpower to train the mind. Don't give up, it is well worth the effort it takes.
